Bonnie “Prince” Billy featuring the Cairo Gang
Known for bringing a no-nonsense demeanor to the post punk/indie folk scene, Will Oldham, better known by his stage name Bonnie “Prince” Billy, has been crafting incredibly poignant and often haunting albums for almost 25 years. Along with the Cairo Gang, he opens the Downtown Sound series for the summer and audiences can expect an evening of swooning vocal harmonies, raucous country-rock riffs and Oldham’s trademark yelp-croon. Eleventh Dream Day
It has been almost five years since the Chicago-based Eleventh Dream Day hit the studio to record an album. However, the band’s 2011 release, Riot Now!, certainly proves worth the wait. Getting back to their frenetic roots, the band’s 10th record is comprised of mostly minimalist, first-take tracks that serve to showcase the groups’ truly exceptional musical talent.
