At 1 am on March 3rd, the indigenous Lenca leader and co- founder of COPINH, resistance leader and defender of rivers and land, was assassinated in Honduras. Join us on the 1 month anniversary to celebrate Berta’s life, showing that Berta didn’t die, she multiplied!
We are proud to announce that Sheilah Garland-Olaniran, Nesreen Hasan, and Kelly Hayes will be speaking and helping connect the struggle in Honduras and the legacy of our beloved compañera Berta Cáceres Flores to the struggles in Flint, Palestine, and Chicago.
Bring artifacts (flowers, a quote from Berta, a photo, etc.) to help build an altar for Berta. As part of the ceremony, everyone is invited to say what Berta means to them and how her work will carry on in our struggles here in Chicago, in Honduras, and globally.
We will also be honoring Berta through music, poetry, and actions in support of the members of COPINH, who continue to face assassination, detainment, and harassment since Berta’s murder.
