Presented by Manual Cinema and produced in part by High Concept Laboratories 2011 Summer Sponsored Projects Program.
Manual Cinema is a collaboration between puppeteers/graphic artists Julia Miller, Drew Dir and Sarah Fornace, with musician/composers Kyle Vegter and Ben Kauffman. Manual Cinema combines overhead projector shadow puppetry, actors in silhouette, and live music performance to create handmade, cinematic stories.
ADA/AVA is an evening-length original shadow puppetry work featuring Maren Celest and Lizi Breit
Manual Cinema’s ADA/AVA tells the story of two sisters separated by death and reunited by phenomenal circumstances. Bereaved of her twin sister Ava, septuagenarian Ada solitarily marks time in the patterns of a life built for two. However, a traveling carnival and a trip to a mirror maze plunge her into a journey across the thresholds of life and death. Set in a landscape of the New England gothic, ADA/AVA uses a story of the fantastic and supernatural to explore mourning and melancholy, self and other.
Thursday and Friday evening the band Cross Records will be opening for the performance and Hip-Hop beatboxing clown Nick Demeris will be opening Saturday and Sunday evening.
