A Tale of Three Cities: Teaching Race and Racism in Chicago

November 8, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Advanced registration is required for the event so please register here:

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy recently published a powerful report called “A Tale of Three Cities: The State of Racial Justice in Chicago.” This report is an important tool for educators and students to use to address racial inequality. This event will help educators, students, and community members to learn more about the report and how it’s relevant to education, and provide time and ideas to plan how to use the report in Chicago classrooms.

Student-teacher teams are encouraged to attend so they can learn about the report together. Facilitators at the event will help students and teachers consider how to develop service learning projects related to the report.

This event will include a panel discussion featuring Barbara Ransby of the UIC Department of History, Teresa Cordova of the UIC Great Cities Institute, Monique Redeaux of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and Patricia Fron from the Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance.

Don’t just hear about racism, make a plan to fight for it!

ISBE professional development hours will be available for educators who attend.
