A Conversation with Tanya Saracho –
From Teatro Luna to How to Get Away with Murder, playwright & television writer Tanya Saracho has a lot to say. Join us for this one-on-one exchange where she sits with award-winning actor, writer, singer, and producer Sandra Delgado (Sandra Delgado’s La Havana Madrid) as they unpack the trials, tribulations, and resiliency that comes with writing for television and the stage.
The event will take place on April 21st at 3:00pm in the Chicago Cultural Center on Floor 5 in the Washington Room.
Tanya Saracho was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, México. She is a playwright and Television Writer who’s worked one “How To Get Away With Murder,” HBO’s “Looking,” “Girls,” and “Devious Maids.” Named “Best New Playwright” by Chicago Magazine, Saracho has had plays produced at: Primary Stages in NYC, 2nd Stage in NYC, Denver Theatre Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Goodman Theater, Steppenwolf Theater, Teatro Vista, Teatro Luna, Fountain Theater, Clubbed Thumb, NEXT Theater and 16th Street Theater. Saracho was named one of nine national Latino “Luminarios” by Café magazine and given the first “Revolucionario” Award in Theater by the National Museum of Mexican Art. She is the co-founder of Teatro Luna (the first all-Latina Theatre Company in the nation) as well as the co-founder of ALTA (Alliance of Latino Theatre Artists). She is currently in development STARZ and Big Beach Films and under commission with: South Coast Repertory Theatre and Two Rivers Theatre. Tanya is proud SAG/AFTRA actor.
Sandra Delgado is an award-winning actor, writer, and producer born and raised in Chicago. Recent stage credits include 2666 at The Goodman Theatre, Motherf**ker with the Hat The Steppenwolf Theatre and Mojada at Victory Gardens Theatre, for which she earned distinction as one of the Top Ten performances of 2013 by the Chicago Tribune. Television credits include Law and Order:SVU, Chicago Justice, Empire, Exorcist, Chicago Fire and Mind Games. She produced Teatro Vista’s and Collaboraction’s Yo Solo Festival of Latino Solo Shows and Collaboraction’s Sketchbook Festival from 2005-2008. She is a founding ensemble member of Collaboraction and an ensemble member of Teatro Vista (Associate Artistic Director from 2006-2008). She is the recipient of the Joyce Award, The Theater Communications Group (TCG) Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowship, a two-time Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events grantee, and a 3Arts 3AP Project Grantee.Ms. Delgado was part of the Goodman’s Playwright’s Unit for the 2015-16 season, a TCG Young Leader of Color Alum, a current member of ALTA’s Semillero Playwright’s Circle and is on the Advisory Committee of the Latinx Theatre Commons, a national advocacy group for Latinx theatre artists. Her new storytelling series, Saints and Sinners, debuted at Collaboraction in March and will continue at Steppenwolf in April and May. The Teatro Vista production of her play La Havana Madrid, which she wrote and stars in, is currently making its world premiere at Steppenwolf’s 1700 Theatre.
