Rita Indiana is a novelist, screenplay writer, former model and all-round fascinating artist who is a genre unto herself. There is simply no other sound like hers on the Latin scene today:  stylized post-punk, slightly queer techno-merengue which envelops lyrics that are practically short stories – tiny narrative jewels crafted in dense Dominican dialogue about topics like being a Dominican maid in a Puerto Rican household; or returning to the island after being sick and tired of working in the U.S. She´s known as ‘La Montra’ in her own country – because in the Dominican dialect when someone is extraordinarily good, they are dubbed “monsters” at their art – and indeed in this case, the nickname fits.
