It was a cold Chicago night but that didn’t stop Lourdes Hernandez of Russian Red from properly kicking off RatioNation’s Mundial de Musica Festival. The Spanish singer/songwriter gave a small and intimate performance with her band at Instituto Cervantes, displaying both her Feist-like vocals and multi-instrumental talents.

Switching from an acoustic guitar, to a drum, to various other instruments throughout the night, Hernandez sang songs from her latest album and joked with the audience in between sets.  It was a small and intimate performance that dived through slow ballads and upbeat numbers, emphasizing both Hernandez’s singing and songwriting abilities. Gozamos was able to speak to Hernandez before the show and she told us a bit about how she got started, what’s next, and how she dealt with that bitter Chicago wind.
