Ever thought about owning art, crafts, and clothing from the Company Segundo line or books by Fidel Castro? All that and more (even MP3 downloads!) are now available for purchase and delivery into the United States from the first online Cuban mall: MallCubano.
The site, available in English and Spanish and priced in either US Dollars or Euros, doesn’t seem to have cigars available (WHAT!?) but does offer humidors. Also up for grabs are paintings, movie posters and classic copies of Cuban cinema. Available titles include “Fresa y Chocolate” and “Guantanamera” from the late Tomás Gutiérrez Aleja, “Roble de Olor” by Rigoberto López, several documentaries including the “Colección Videoteca Contracorriente ICAIC” (or Contracorriente Video Library), and even cartoon classics like “Feliz, Feliz”, and the animated series “Vampiros en La Habana”!
The dizzying literature section is sorted by genre. The subjects include grammar lessons, picture books, cook books, baseball tactics, and musical scores. Also available is a wide selection of hard-to-find magazines on topics ranging from art to politics and culture.
MallCubano is a great source for gifts as well. Their stock includes crafts, accessories and quirky and beautiful souvenirs. Fans, umbrellas, shower curtains, dinner sets, tablecloths, place mats, puzzles… the possibilities are endless and you’ll always find something for that proverbial person-who-has-everything on your list. They even have a digital download section where users can pay for and download MP3 files and video clips of local music artists of several genres!
Finally, there’s also a section that allows users from anywhere in the world to book hotel rooms and secure tickets to participate in local cultural events such as the “30th Caribbean Festival,” “Cubadisco 2010,” “Verdadero Baila,” and “Mi Fiesta en el Gran Caribe.”
