Located in a quirky warehouse (1438 W Kinzie St ) and decorated with an always mutating ensemble of weird gadgets, peculiar costumes and borderline steam-punk devices, the amazing Redmoon theatre company is celebrating their twentieth anniversary with a roster of incredible shows and performances. Running until April 24^th, Redmoon is showing a breathtaking adaptation of Robert Wiene’s classic German expressionism staple “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”

Redmoon’s artistic director Frank Maugeri says that what you can expect from “The Cabinet,” and Redmoon shows in general, is “remarkable design, incredible craft, a great commitment to detail… riotous, rambunctious, wonderful character (be it a character that is personified by an object, or a character that is an actor in some kind of flamboyant costume), extremely well designed, and extremely outrageous objects (often some form of vehicle or device that begins as one thing and transforms into another thing)… Generally, you can expect stories that are very universal so that anyone can understand them and more importantly identify with them– because the scenes are broad, the subjects are broad, and the way in which we approach it is often through images, lyricism and celebration…” and trust me, it is an understatement.

Redmoon shows are very special and not easily forgettable: their magical capacity for artistic flair, and their always memorable performances, got them invited to the Halloween events at the White House last year, as well as the opening ceremonies of Millenium Park and the North Garden of the Art Institute of Chicago.
